I can’t remember the last time I posted a review of a book, that’s how rare it is. But there’s one book that my boys love, that I love, and that my wife heard me reading and said “Who wrote that? It’s wonderful.” Well, that would be the book written by my friend Niko Staten, and illustrated by my friend Sonya Craig, I’d Rather Be A Robot.
This is one of those great bedtime books that a kid under 6 would love. My sons are closing in on 3 and 5 too fast for my liking, but they love this story. I dusted off my iPad and read it to them last night, then again tonight twice.
The story follows a little girl who does something different, and her peers react as we so often see, which is they don’t want to accept it. I love that the rhyming and story captures my boys, and that my older one identifies with the difference of the girl. The role of the teacher is just awesome, particularly as he looks forward to Big Kid School in September.
I gave it 5 stars when it came out and we enjoyed it, but then on this family road trip, I thought I’d make sure we read it again. I forgot how much I enjoyed it, and the boys loved it. When my wife asked about it, and then read it herself, I thought I should share this.
I can’t say enough good things about it. Five stars, easy. You can find it on Amazon.
